Germanium
Germanium is a colorless, toxic flammable gas with a pungent odor. It can burn spontaneously in the air. It is compatible with hydrogen, argon, helium, nitrogen, and is often mixed with these gases. Germanium is used in the deposition of epitaxial silicon and amorphous silicon, germanium and alloy, and as a component of plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition of (Si, Ge) 02 thin films, providing a controllable refractive index for optoelectronic applications. Usually carried by free gas, rather than under self pressure.
